Leon Raymond Greening, 81, of 1427 Perry St., Chippewa Falls, died Thursday morning at his home, surrounded by his loving family, under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

He was born August 26, 1931 in Chippewa Falls to Frances (Anderl) and Philip Greening. He graduated from McDonell High School in 1949. He enlisted in the US Army on January 22, 1952, serving until being honorably discharged on December 22, 1953. He was a Korean War Veteran.

Lee married Barbara Rae Fransway on December 23, 1960 in Stillwater, MN.

He worked as a machinist at Johnson Manufacturing and later as a maintenance machinist at Uniroyal. The last decade of his work career, he was a custodian for the Chippewa Falls School District.

Lee and Barb spent many winters in Arizona and summers in Birchwood. Lee enjoyed fishing, bird watching, gathering shells on the beach and watching the Packers. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Barb; his children, Cyndi Greening of Los Angeles, California, Sandy (Jeff) Bowe, Roxie Fransway Greening, Kim (Kevin "Cubby") Steinmetz all of Chippewa Falls, Kevin (Audra) Greening, U.S. Army, Bamberg, Germany; 14 grandchildren, Alec Hart, Chris (Sara) Bowe, Kevin Bowe, Brandon and Jerrod Steinmetz, Kyle, Kody and Kayla Steinmetz, Amanda, Jay, Lee, Eva, Nic and Mei Mei Greening; one great-grandson, Nicodamus Bowe; three brothers, Patrick (Elaine) Greening, Cletus (Joan) Greening all of Chippewa Falls, Ambrose (Jackie) Greening of Racine; a sister, Bonnie (Kenneth) Briggs of Chippewa Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many cherished friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lynn Marie, in infancy; brothers, Philip, Lorenz, Paul and Joseph and sisters, Patricia and Mary.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 15 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel with the Very Rev. Ed Shuttleworth of St. Charles Borromeo, officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.

Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, October 14 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral chapel.

AFTERSERVICE

A memorial service for Leon R. Greening, 81, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 15, 2012 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls. The Very Rev. Ed Shuttleworth of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls officiated and music was provided by organist, Judy Brist and vocalist, Ashlei Buhrow. Personal reflections were shared by Leon's son, Kevin Greening, daughter, Roxie Fransway Greening and granddaughter-in-law, Sara Bowe.

Interment will be held at a later date in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
