Leona E. Klukas, 89, of Chippewa Falls, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at Care Partners Assisted Living in Bloomer.
She was born October 28, 1923 in Chippewa Falls to Philapena (Toebe) and John Hilp Jr. Leona grew up in Chippewa Falls where she also attended school.
On March 30, 1946, Leona married Wallace Klukas. They resided in the town of Anson and raised their two children. The couple later divorced, but remained close friends.
Leona worked at Chippewa Shoe and at Mason Shoe in Chippewa Falls. She then worked at the Northern Center as an institutional aide for many years, until her retirement.
She loved to travel, work puzzles and puzzle books, and enjoyed history. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy (Ray) Moungey of Racine; her son, Larry (Jane) Klukas of Cornell; a sister, Esther (Vern) Hatlie of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Mike (Dawn), Rick (Becky), Ginger and Tim. She is further survived by numerous step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jeanette Hilp in infancy and Louise Rundberg; her former husband and friend, Wallace Klukas; one step-grandchild;and her longtime companion, Leonard Felce.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 19 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Dr. Gary Paul officiating. Spring interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
