Leonard Dekan

Leonard R. Dekan, 91, of Chippewa Falls, died peacefully at the WI Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls on Monday, October 30, 2017.

He was born on July 15, 1926, to Charles and Rose (Zwiefelhofer) Dekan in Cadott, WI. Leonard married Bernice Woodford on September 23, 1954. He served his country with the US Army during the Korean War, until his Honorable Discharge. Leonard was a carpenter for most of his life, working construction with his brothers for Hehl & Grohn. He built and remodeled many homes. Following his retirement in 1991, he and Bernice moved to their cabin on Windfall Lake, near Exeland. After Bernice’s passing, Leonard was one of the first to move into the WI Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls.

Leonard enjoyed spending time at his cabin. He did a lot of woodworking projects. Leonard was an avid Brewers and Twins fan, watching many games. He was always busy with projects and had a very strong faith in God.

Leonard is survived by his daughters, Karen (Jack) Gunderson of Chippewa Falls, Rose Belden of Altoona, Elaine (Richard) Kaiser of Trego, and Anita (Jeff) Belden of Cumberland; sons, Steve (Barb) Dekan of Chippewa Falls, Dennis (Gina) Dekan of Altoona, and Duane Dekan of Crooks, SD; sister, Ellen Anderson of Fall Creek; brother, Karl Dekan of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Jessica (Darrel) Rogers, Stacey Gunderson, Angela (Ross) Krizan, Kurt (Miranda) Schindler, Brett Dekan, Garrett Dekan, and Morgan Dekan, Sydney Dekan, Mackenzie Olinske, Zach Olinske, Catlin Clark and Jenny Lindbo; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Aaliyah, Riley, Vaughn, Lila, Angel, Violet, Tiffany, April, Hailee, Ethan, Samantha, Aiden and Colton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice; grandson, Steve Dekan Jr., brothers, Arnie, Harold and Willmar; and great-grandson, Elijah Dekan.

A visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia Street, Chippewa Falls, with a prayer vigil at 6:30, led by Sr. Yvonne Hiess.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, 2801 N. 110th Ave, Chippewa Falls, with a visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at church. Fr. Justin Kizewski will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
