Leonard A. Peck, 93, of Chippewa Falls, town of Hallie, died Sunday, September 7, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 13, 1921 in the town of Dovre, Barron County, to Geelka (Reeverts) and Forest Peck. He moved with his parents at the age of four to the town of Hallie where he grew up on the family farm and continued to live and farm all his life. He graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School in 1940.
Leonard married Jean I. Woodruff of Eagle Point on June 18, 1949 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls.
He was very active in many church, farm and cooperative organizations over the years. He held many offices in Chippewa County Dairy Improvement Cooperative, Chippewa County Holstein Association, Chippewa County Production Credit Association, Badger Breeders Cooperative and Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives. He served on the State of Wisconsin Soil and Water Conservation Board and Land O' Lakes Corporate Board as well as chairman of their dairy division. He was a member and past president of Wisconsin Master Farmers and received the Wisconsin Outstanding Young Farmer Award from the Jaycees in 1957. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he held several offices.
He was named Wisconsin Distinguished Agriculturist from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in May 1974 and received the University of Wisconsin College Agriculture and Life Sciences Award in March 1977. In November 1980, he received the Builders Award from the Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives and was given the Kiwanis Agriculture Award in November 1990. He received the Distinguished Holstein Breeders Award in January 1991 and is a Distinguished Alumnus of Chi-Hi.
Leonard really loved the rural life and enjoyed raising his registered Holstein cattle and good crops of alfalfa, corn and oats. He was a true leader in his state and community and will be missed by his wife, family, friends and neighbors. He was always willing to listen and help when needed.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; two daughters, Margaret Peck of North Carolina, Jolene (Ronald) Berg of Chippewa Falls; a son, George (Mary) Peck of the town of Hallie; a daughter-in-law, Kathi Peck of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Joyce Soholt of Spooner; two sisters-in-law, Carol Peck of Hallie, Arlene Peck of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of good friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harold Peck; four brothers, G. Richard, Allard, Howard and Willard Peck; two sisters-in-law, Helen M. and Helen S. Peck; and a great-granddaughter, Layla Ann Bond.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 13 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Terri Koca officiating. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church and one hour prior to the service Saturday, all at the church.
AFTERSERVICE
A funeral service for Leonard A. Peck, 93, of Chippewa Falls was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 13 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Terri Koca officiated and music was provided by organist, Judy Brist and vocalists, Carl Cronquest and Allan Peterson. Several family members and friends shared personal reflections
Interment was in Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie. Casket bearers were Shawn, Mark and Ozro Peck, Sawyer Berg, Don Vogler, John "Horton Ausman and Kristi Helland.
