Leone S. Laird, 95, of Chippewa Falls, died Friday, December 7, 2012 at Chippewa Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls.

She was born April 21, 1917 in Chippewa Falls to Teresa (Staudinger) and Valentine Abel.

Leone married John M. "Ace" Laird on September 24, 1938 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls.

She has been described as "a woman with a huge personality". Whether in her early days of cutting figure eights into the ice of the Chippewa Falls mill pond to the last dance of any event, family, friends, and fun surrounded her. Ace and Leone's home on the farm in Cornell was a place where all were welcomed and made to feel at home. While her accomplishments to the world were many and varied, these words summed up her attitude: You can find friends everywhere but you can't find enemies anywhere. You have to make them.

Survivors include three daughters, Jean (Tom) Hebert of Chippewa Falls, Elaine (Kirke) Plank of Janesville, Susan (Tom McGann) Laird of Cordova, AK; two sons, Larry (Lanna) Laird of Menomonie, David (Linda) Laird of Cornell; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband "Ace" on October 2, 2005; three sisters, Florence Potter, Ann Bye, Mary Germain; a brother, Valentine Abel; a grandson, Loren Laird; great-grandson, Eric Evenson and great-granddaughter, Sloane J. Brehmer.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, December 10 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra, chaplain at the Chippewa Manor, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m., Monday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials in Leone's honor are appreciated and may be designated to the Sloane J. Brehmer Endowment Fund, c/o The Community Foundation of Chippewa County, PO Box 153, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.

AFTERSERVICE

A funeral service for Leone S. Laird, 95, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 7 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2012 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Robert Hoekstra, chaplain at the Chippewa Manor officiated. Music was provided by daughter-in-law, Lanna Laird and grandson Lance Laird and son-in-law, Kirke Plank delivered the eulogy.

Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery Chippewa Falls. Casket bearers were Billy and Wade Hodgkinson, Chad, Lance and Mitch Laird and Kirke Plank.
