Lillian Hanson

Lillian Ruth Hanson, born to Oscar and Alma (Larson) Hanson on February 12, 1917 in the town of Dover, Barron County, went to her eternal rest at Comforts of Home, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on December 3, 2013.

She graduated from Chetek High School in 1935 and immediately enrolled in the Barron County Normal School where she obtained a teaching certificate and began her 46 year educational career at the age of 18 in a one-room school at Little Beaver School. She returned to Chetek and taught for several years in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She earned a Bachelors degree and later a Masters degree and continuing professional education credits from the University of Wisconsin Higher Education system. She taught English and served as a Middle School librarian in Monroe, Wisconsin for 28 years, retiring in 1981. She then moved back to her hometown of Chetek.

She was truly an inspiring, talented woman, who was faithful to her aspirations for herself as well as others. As an educator, she had a remarkable positive influence on the lives of students to the point where they continued to remain in contact with her. Always, her family, friends, and neighbors will remember her lively conversations and lifelong support of the Green Bay Packers. She was also an inspiration to her nieces and nephews who continue to be grateful for her example, guidance and encouragement in living life to the fullest. Her wit, humor and loving efforts to encourage her family to stay connected will be dearly missed.

During the final weeks of her life she was lovingly cared for by Comforts of Home staff and the Mayo Health System Hospice nurses as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family and long-time personal friends who brought comfort and support to her with the same full measure of love and encouragement she so generously gave to others.

She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
