Linden O. Flaten, 69, of Chippewa Falls, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
He was born October 21, 1941 in Eau Claire to Borghild (Moe) and Nordahl Flaten. He grew up in Strum, where he attended school.
Following high school, Linden enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1958 until his retirement from the Army in 1978. During his 20 years, he served two tours in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star for valor.
Linden returned to the Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls area, where he owned and operated a Nordam's pilot car business. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW, Altoona Post #10405.
Survivors include sons, Norman W.Flaten of Belvidere, Illinois, Jonny Glatczak and Robert Barr, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughters, Kathrine (Anthony "Tony") Oliver of Hopkins, South Carolina, Joy (Mike) Adams of Strum; a brother Norman B. Flaten of Washington; friend and caregiver, Liz Glatczak of Chippewa Falls; and 12 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, July 17 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. Interment with military honors will be at 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, July 19 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery (Assembly area #4) in Minneapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
