Lorraine E. Gilbertson, 93, of Chippewa Falls, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, while under the care of Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice.
She was born August 28, 1920 in Grandview, WI to Minnie (Wallin) and Peter Gilstad. She was raised in Grandview and graduated from Drummond High School in 1938. She then attended the Eau Claire School of Cosmetic Arts.
Lorraine married Donald L. Gilbertson on October 4, 1941 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls. She has resided in Chippewa Falls since their marriage.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Chippewa Falls, PEO-BF Chapter, TTT, Order of the Eastern Star and was the Guardian of Jobs Daughters. She also enjoyed her time being a mentor for the Chippewa Falls Schools.
Survivors include three daughters, Dianne L. Gilbertson-Jones, Ruth Anne (John Lauson) Gilbertson all of Chippewa Falls, Kathryn Tanner of Eau Claire; three grandchildren, Lori (Greg) Borders of Aledo, TX, Rachel and Johnathan Tanner, of Eau Claire; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Janie Borders; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald on July 23, 2002; four brothers, Arnold, Kenneth, Burton and Lyle Gilstad.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 11 at First Presbyterian Church, Chippewa Falls with Revs. Katherine Griffis, Terri Koca and Barry Boyer, officiating. Spring interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lorraine's honor may be designated to Irvine Park or to the Chippewa Falls Boys & Girls Club.
AFTERSERVICE
A funeral service for Lorraine E. Gilbertson, 93, of Chippewa Falls was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 11 at First Presbyterian Church, Chippewa Falls. The officiants for the service were Rev. Katherine Griffis of First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Terri Koca of Trinity United Methodist Church and Rev. Dr. Barry Boyer former Pastor of First Presbyterian Church. Music was provided by organist, Barbara Sandford, soloist Jackie Nordwig and the Presbyterian Mens Choir. Reflections were shared by Lorraines granddaughter, Lori Borders and nephew, Paul Gilbertson. Casket bearers were Eric Anderson, Larry Goeb, Jon Kemper, Allan Peterson, John Tanner and Mike Tzanakis. Interment will take place in the spring at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
