Lowell K. Hanson, 78, of Chetek, died Friday, June 27, 2014 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek.

He was born September 28, 1935 in Langford, South Dakota the son of Katherine (Hoiness) and Hans Hanson. He graduated from Langford High School in 1953 and then served four years in the US Navy as an Electronics Technician 2nd Class. He then graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines, Rapid City, South Dakota in 1961, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Lowell married Mary Lou Heeney on October 24, 1964 in Minneapolis and they resided in the Minneapolis area where he was employed at Control Data Corp. until 1983. He continued to work in the technology industry where he and his family traveled and resided in several locations including France, South Africa and Washington D.C. area, until retiring to the Chetek area in 2007.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicki (Mike) Wheeler; two sons, Tom (Mary) Hanson, Ron Hanson; two sisters, Evelyn Reints, Anna (Duane) Strand; one brother, Harold Hanson; two grandchildren, Stacy (Brian) Weimer, Heidi (Nathan) Deurkop; two great-grandchildren, Grady and Fiona Weimer; also survived by several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lou on July 4, 2011 and a sister, Helen Hanson.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 1 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7600 Cahill Ave., Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota with Pastor Bruce Schmidt of Grace Baptist Church, Chippewa Falls officiating. Interment with military honors is scheduled for 12 noon on Tuesday, July 1 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, June 29 at Christ Lutheran Church, Chetek and visitation will also be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday, June 30 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Inver Grove Heights.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Irvine Park Zoo of Chippewa Falls in Lowell's memory would be appreciated. Any donations received by family will be used to buy a memorial brick at the zoo. The Parks & Rec Office also accepts donations in memoriam at (715) 723-0051.

AFTERSERVICE

A funeral service for Lowell K. Hanson, 78, of Chetek was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 1 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. Pastor Bruce Schmidt of Grace Baptist Church, Chippewa Falls officiated and music was provided by Lisa Langton. The eulogy was given by son, Tom Hanson and scripture readings were given by Kathleen Carlson, Jessica Kasper and Joni Shogren. Interment with military honors was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Casket bearers were Paul Reints, Nate Duerkop, Steve Shogren, David Reints, Brian Weimer and Jake Kasper.
