Lucille I. "Lucy" Meier, 88, of 525 Maitland Dr., Chippewa Falls, died Sunday morning, July 24, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
She was born on the family farm on April 24, 1923 in the town of Longwood, Clark County, the daughter of Maria (Stinehaus) and Albert Nindorf. She was raised in Longwood until moving to Chippewa Falls with her family at the age of 13, where she graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1941.
She was employed at Woolworth's, JC Penney, Chippewa County Ag Agent and 4-H Office, then as a ticket agent for Braniff Airways in Minneapolis.
Lucy married Howard "Holly" Meier April 16, 1954 in Hudson, Wis. and has resided in the town of Lafayette. She was the secretary at the English Lutheran Church of Bateman for 31 years, until 1996 when she moved to Chippewa Falls.
She and her husband, Holly, boarded, raised and showed Beagles, many of them who were champions. She was a well known local artist and her work exhibited at many art shows. She was an active member of the English Lutheran Church of Bateman and did volunteer work for the church Annual Home Tour, Chippewa Falls Police Department, Chippewa Falls Public Library, St. Joseph's Hospital, Crop Walk and was a Literacy Volunteer. Her most enjoyable past-times were her family, reading and nature, from a sprinkle of rain water on newly mowed grass and she especially enjoyed clouds. Lucy was just "a Country Girl at heart."
Survivors include: one son, John (Diana) Meier of Lake Elmo, Minn.; a special granddaughter, Jenna L. Meier of Lake Elmo; four nieces, Myrna (Jerald) Richmond, Marcia Gregorich, Linda (Gerald) Friedman, Janice Blume; one nephew, Lee (Myrna) Meinholdt.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Holly on July 28, 1985; three sisters, Dorothea Walters, Leona Moen, Irene Meinholdt; two brothers, Loren and Quentin Nindorf; two nieces, Donna and Shirley.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 28 at the English Lutheran Church of Bateman with Rev. D.J. Rasner officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lucy's name may be directed to the Chippewa Falls Food Pantry or a charity of the donor's choice.
