Master Sergeant Luke J. Sonsalla, USAF Ret., age 85, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
He was born September 18, 1931 in Independence, WI to Martha (Pietrick) and Luke T. Sonsalla. He graduated from Independence High School, class of 1949.
Luke first served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1949-53; and in 1957, he reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1978.
On October 8, 1976, Luke married Peggy J. Peck in St. Paul, MN. They resided in Chippewa Falls, where Luke worked as a salesman for Hovland's, retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his daughter, Polly Sonsalla of St. Paul, MN; a son, Jeff Sonsalla of Eau Claire; two grandchildren, LeeJan Sonsalla and Anton Jackson, both of St. Paul; and four siblings, Maryan Dantonio of Columbus, OH, James (Rosetta) Sonsalla of Plant City, FL, Grace Wolfe of Arcadia, and Bill (Louise) Sonsalla of Mesquite, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy on July 15, 2013; and two brothers-in-law, Justin Dantonio and Gerald "Chalky" Wolfe.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 11 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Military honors provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will take place immediately following the service at the funeral chapel.
Interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner at a later date.
Visitation will be held one-half hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral chapel.
