Marcella (Schaefer) Cairns, 94, passed away on February 9, 2013 in Chippewa Falls.

The daughter of John Henry Schaefer and Barbara Anna (Boehmer) Schaefer was born in Melrose, MN on February 13, 1918. Marcella grew up in Minnesota where she met and married Bruce A. Cairns of Mt. Hope, WI. They were married on December 29, 1941 in Granite Falls, MN.

In 1948, she and Bruce moved to Waukegan, IL. For many years Bruce worked for the North Shore Railroad and Marcella was a stay-at-home mother. Marcella began working outside their home in 1958, first as a bookkeeper at the Blumberg Furniture Store, then in the Recorder's Office at the Lake County Court House. Upon retirement she moved to Chippewa Falls.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband Bruce in 1968, sister Mildred, brothers John, Joseph, Clarence, and Jerome, half-sisters Gertrude, Mary, Margaret, and Lillian, and half-brothers William, Jeremiah, and Raymond. She is survived by sister Delores Thommes of McMinnville, OR; sons, Robert (Mary Murphy) Cairns of Tucson, AZ, John (Jane Bray) Cairns of Redlands, CA; daughters, Susan (Peter) Holm of Chippewa Falls, Barbara (Jerry) Reif of Mills County, IA; grandchildren, Jerry Reif, Jr. (Nikki Swope), Michael (Stacey) Reif, Laura Reif (James Pumphrey), Daniel Murphy-Cairns, Moira Murphy-Cairns (Sean McGovern), Emily Cairns, Joseph Holm, and Anne Holm (Josh Posthuma); her beloved great-grandchildren, Morgan Swope, Lila Reif-Swope, Lily Pumphrey, Elisabeth Pumphrey, Briana Reif, Sydney Reif, and twins Edison Posthuma and Maxwell Posthuma; and her very special friend, Maureen Therou of Chippewa Falls.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 15 at the Chapel of the Resurrection at the Chippewa Manor. Fr. Victor Inbaraj, pastor of Holy Ghost Parish will celebrate the Mass.

Burial will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 16 at Hermitage Cemetery in Mt. Hope, WI.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Marcella's name to the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, MN.

AFTERSERVICE:

A funeral Mass for Marcella (Schaefer) Cairns, 94, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 15 at the Chapel of the Resurrection at the Chippewa Manor, Chippewa Falls. Fr. Victor Inbaraj of Holy Ghost Catholic Church officiated, music was provided by Judy Brist and Katie Hall. Readings were given by Janice Brandes, Lily Pumphrey and Ann Thelen; gift bearers were granddaughter, Anne Holm, great-granddaughters, Elisabeth Pumphrey, Sydney Reif, Briana Reif and family friend, Maureen Therou; granddaughter, Laura Reif read the pryaers of the faithful and assisted with communion; personal reflections were given by sons-in-law, Peter Holm, Jerry Reif Sr. and grandson, Jerry Reif Jr.

Interment was in Hermitage Cemetery, Mount Hope, WI. Casket bearers were grandchildren, Laura, Michael and Jerry Reif Jr., Anne and Joseph Holm and Emily Cairns.
