Margaret E. Listebarger, 87, of Romeis Apartments, 607 High St., Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday evening, June 28, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Eau Claire.
She was born October 22, 1923 in Iola, Kansas to Ella (Thomas) and Jay W. Hesser. She was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she graduated from McKinley High School. She then attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City for two years. She was then employed as a professional for Campfire Girls in Cedar Rapids.
Margaret married F. Keith Listebarger on October 22, 1949 in Cedar Rapids. After their marriage they lived in Fort Riley, Kansas while her husband served in the U.S. Army and then moved to Fairfax, Iowa in January 1950. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1960 where they resided until moving to the Milwaukee area in 1962.
She was employed as Activities Director at Northshore Nursing Home, Glendale for 20 years, until she retired and moved to Chippewa Falls in 1992.
Survivors include: two daughters, Jean Ann (Terry) Wells of Chippewa Falls, Jeanette (Mike) Thunder of Madison; three grandchildren, Christopher (Betsy) Wells of Winona, Minn., Nathan (Karyn) Wells of River Falls, Amy Wells of Eau Claire; two great-grandchildren, Benna and Oliver Wells; two sisters-in-law, Gwen Hesser of Cedar Rapids, Jean (Bob) Humphrey, Ames, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband Keith in October 1970; her parents; a son Robert Charles in infancy; one sister, Katherine Enright; one brother, Jay W. Hesser Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 2 at Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls with Rev. Rick Hoyme officiating. Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 5 in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Friday, July 1 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
A visitation will also be held Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel from 10 a.m. until the time of the graveside service at 10:30.
Margaret will be remembered as someone who loved her family and friends dearly and who had a zest for life that was contagious.
