Margaret M. Smith, 94, formerly of Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.

She was born June 10, 1919 in the town of Wheaton, Chippewa County to Mae (Brown) and Willard Austin. She was raised in the town of Wheaton and attended school in Chippewa Falls.

Margaret married Otto Wolter on January 31, 1940 in Chippewa Falls. They were married for 25 years, then divorced.

She then married Perry Smith on May 7, 1972 in Black River Falls. They resided in Hibbing, MN, where Margaret worked as a seamstress. Her husband, Perry preceded her in death in 1997. She then moved back to Chippewa Falls where she resided at the Northern Apartments and then the Romeis Apartments. For the past two years, she had been a resident at Clark County Health Care.

While living in Chippewa Falls, Margaret worked at the Woolen Mill, and as a nurses aide at St. Josephs Hospital and at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Erlien of Chippewa Falls, Sandra OBrien of Taylor, WI, May (Ken) Knecht of Holcombe; a son Bruce Wolter of Cornell; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Perry; two sisters, Nellie Austin, Eva Olds; three brothers, Hugh, Kenneth and Clayton Austin.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, October 7 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Pastor Wade Duroe of Crossroads Church officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral chapel.
