Margaret A. Walsh, 96, of Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls.

She was born June 23, 1917 in Cooks Valley, the daughter of Anna (Borofka) and Thomas Grill. She grew up in Bloomer and attended area schools. She also attended the School for the Blind in Janesville.

In November, 1950, Margaret married William T. Walsh. Together they had two children, Anne and Thomas. William passed away in 1955.

Margaret and the children resided in Chippewa Falls, where she worked as a cook at McDonnell High School. When the new McDonnell High School was built, Margaret helped implement the hot lunch program there. After retirement, Margaret worked at the Headstart Program, and became their official "grandmother," taking care of the children there.

Margaret's passion was cooking. She was always reading recipe books and trying new things in the kitchen. Her family enjoyed partaking in the new recipes, as well as her old traditional favorites.

She is survived by a daughter, Anne Walsh; a son, Tom (Roxanne) Walsh, all of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Helen Duffenbach of Chippewa Falls; a brother, Gilbert Grill of TX; a sister-in-law, Dottie Grill of CA; three grandchildren, Jada (Matthew) Shields of Chippewa Falls, Erin (Brent) Leach of Colfax, Mac Walsh of Chippewa Falls; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Frank, Arthur, Herman, Roman, Thomas Jr., Ambrose, Irwin "Pat" Grill, and Marcella Hable.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 8 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

AFTERSERVICE

A funeral service for Margaret A. Walsh, 96, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 8 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiated and music was provided by Judy Brist. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Casket bearers were Mac Walsh, Brent Leach and Matt Shields.
