Marian Frances Horn, 91, of Chippewa Falls died peacefully September 3, 2012, at Wissota Health Reflections in Chippewa Falls.
She was born February 10, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Ralph and Marie McFayden. She grew up on a homestead farm near Gregory, S.D. where she graduated from Gregory High School.
Marian married Henry W. Horn on Dec. 20, 1941 in Burke, South Dakota. She was baptized and became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Burke on April 2, 1942.She was an active member of Grace Lutheran for many years, serving in the Ladies Aid and as Sunday School teacher.
In 1987 Marian moved to Chippewa Falls where she joined Our Saviour's Lutheran Church where she became an active member of the OSLC Quilter's and the Ruth Circle. Her faith was important to her - the passage that sustained her was Phillipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
As a child growing up in the dust bowl days of the Great Depression she learned the value of resourcefulness, resiliency and frugality. She became an accomplished seamstress, and was awarded many blue ribbons for her handiwork, including the Sweepstakes prize at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair. She was an avid baseball fan, especially for the Cubs, Twins and Brewers, but her main love in life was her family.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Carol (Gary) Gienapp of Chippewa Falls and son Wesley (Judy) Horn of Carroll, Iowa, five grandchildren, Todd (Heather) of Vancouver, WA, Brian (Lisa) Gienapp of Monument, CO, Jennifer Barry of Whitefish Bay, WI, Theresa Gienapp of St. Paul, Amy (Ron) Lottridge of Denver, CO, and seven great grandchildren, Katie and Joshua Gienapp, Bennett and Peter Barry, Caroline and Lukas Gienapp, Henry Lottridge, and twelve nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margaret Knapp, her brother Ray McFayden, and by her husband Henry on January 30, 1985.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 6th at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Paul Oppedahl officiating. Interment will be at 11:30 AM Friday September 7th at Graceland Cemetery in Burke, South Dakota.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Wissota Health Reflections and to St. Joseph's Hospice for their compassion and kindness.
Before her death, Marian requested that any memorials given be designated to the Quilters of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls, or in honor of her husband Henry to Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, SD.
AFTERSERVICE:
A funeral service for Marian Frances Horn, 91, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 6 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Paul Oppedahl officiated and music was provided by organist, Barbara Sandford and vocalist, Judy Brist. Marian's son, Wesley Horn gave the eulogy and scripture readings were given by granddaughter, Amy Lottridge and grandson, Todd Gienapp.
Casket bearers were grandchildren, Todd, Brian and Theresa Gienapp, Jennifer Barry, Amy Lottridge and great-grandchildren, Henry Lottridge, Katie, Joshua, Caroline and Lukas Gienapp, Bennett and Peter Barry.
Graveside services were held at Graceland Cemetery, Burke, SD. The Rev Roger Skatrud officiated at the committal service. Casket bearers were nieces and nephews, Cathy Harrison, Merrill McFayden, Marcille Richards, Cindy Diekmann, Clark and Kerry Horn.
