Mary E. (Pratt) Duval, 50, of New Richmond, formerly of Chippewa Falls, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at Westfield Hospital in New Richmond, after a two year fight with cancer.
She was born February 26, 1965 in Eau Claire to Cleo (Olson) and Thomas Pratt Sr. She grew up in Chippewa Falls and graduated from Chi-Hi, class of 1984.
On March 13, 1990, she married Robert "Bob" Duval. They resided in New Richmond where Mary worked for many years as a pharmacy tech.
Mary had a love for all animals, but her passion was her cats, or her "critters," as she would say. Over the years, Mary rescued dozens of cats. She had two sheds that were converted into dwellings for her critters, fully equipped with all the comforts of home for them.
Mary will always be remembered for her bright personality. She lit up any room she entered and was loved by all. At family gatherings, Mary could be found playing with the kids, whether it was board games or full-on squirt gun wars in the yardshe was a kid at heart. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of New Richmond; mother, Cleo (James) Lane of Bloomer; brothers, Thomas (Becky) Pratt Jr. of Chippewa Falls, William (Kris) Pratt of Eau Claire; mother and father-in-law, Lois and Francis Duval of Cadott; brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrell Duval, Bill (Anna Giedd) Duval, all of Chippewa Falls, Cindy (Terry) Scherer of Loyal, Dan (Wendy) Duval of Ellsworth, Richard (Jean) Duval of Cottage Grove; aunt and uncle, Gayle and William Pratt of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews; two great-nephews and a great-niece; numerous friends; and last, but not least, her many beloved critters.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Pratt Sr.; and her grandparents, Leonard and Mary Jane Paulson.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, February 5 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert B. Hoekstra officiating. Spring interment will be at St. Bridget's Cemetery in the town of Seymour, Chippewa County.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral chapel.
