Mary Thompson

Mary Elizabeth Schenk Meyer Thompson, 78, of Chippewa Falls, died peacefully Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family and while under the care of Mayo Hospice.

She was born July 14, 1942 in Minnesota to Marcella Elizabeth (Cunningham) and Arthur James Schenk Sr.   She grew up in White Bear Lake, MN and graduated from WBL High School, class of 1961.

On May 22, 1976, she married Dorman Thompson.  They resided in Minnesota where Mary worked as an occupational teacher and bus aid at a school for special needs children and later a bus driver for Ryder Bus company. Dorman retired from 3M in 1997, and in 2000 they moved to Wisconsin and then to Chippewa Falls in 2002.

Mary had a motherly nature and over the years had many “adopted” children, (mostly friends of her own children and grandchildren) that called her “mom.”  She enjoyed puzzles; mahjong; watching Animal Planet with her granddaughter; being a grandma to Natalie’s friends; baking; reading her bible; taking care of people; and spreading the word of God.  She will be dearly missed by many.

She was a member of Chippewa Valley Bible Church in Chippewa Falls.

She is survived by her husband Dorman of Chippewa Falls; daughter, Kathryn Mary Thompson; granddaughter, Natalie Jean Morency; stepchildren, Anthony “Tony” (Sonja) Thompson, Lisa (Tom) Thompson; step-grandson, Gavin Thompson; sisters, Susan Kay (Robert) Murphy, Patricia Ellen (Dennis) Wright; special family friend and “adopted” daughter, Brittani (Tom) Locker and their children, Brock, Rylee and Hayden Locker; daughter, Elizabeth (Al) Bester; sons, Lloyd (Laura) Meyer and Alan (Vicky) Meyer; brother-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Thompson; loved ones and “adopted” children, Kaia Wilkie, Sidni White, Hunter Turner, Darnell “DJ” Casey, Tommie Charles; and numerous other "adopted" grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rachel Leah Thompson on June 19, 2020; her parents Marcella and Arthur Sr.; siblings, Arthur "Artie" James Schenk Jr., Michael Thomas Schenk, Sarah “Sally” Jane Annette, and Teresa “Terri” Marie Ellis.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, November 14 at Chippewa Valley Bible Church, Chippewa Falls with Pastor Troy Solava officiating.  Interment will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
