Melva J. (Sullivan) Peterson, 101, long-time resident of Chippewa Falls, died September 8, 2016 at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester, MN.
Melva was born August 24, 1915 in Two Harbors, MN to William and Nora (Johnson) Sullivan. The eldest of 14 children, Melva moved to Chippewa Falls as a young girl and graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High in 1933. On June 29, 1935 Melva married Roald (Pete) Peterson at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI.
She is survived by her five children; Sally (Don) Wendt, Steven, Christine (Dan) Rice, Gregg and Jeff. Melva is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and three siblings; sisters, Noreen (Bill) Lange, Jackie (Terry) Strawhecker and brother Jerry, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Pete on June 26, 1996; daughter Judith Lee; brothers, Billy, Norman, Tom, Mike and Jimmy Sullivan; sisters, Ethel Dougherty Wahl, Elizabeth (Betty) Coble, Kathryn Rushmann and Patsy Wheeler.
Melva lived life well and enjoyed her 101 years on earth. She will be remembered for many things including her love of family, her kindness toward all and her sense of humor. Her culinary skills were legendary and her pies, cakes and rolls will long be remembered by family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Melva's long life will be held at 11 am, Monday, September 26th at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Aaron Sturgis officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Memorials may be designated to the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin.
