Merrill O. Seaberg, 89, of 4922 180th St., Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
He was born March 1, 1922 in the Detroit Lakes, MN area to Minnie (Golie) and John Seaberg.
Merrill married Alice Sherping on March 23, 1946 in Minneapolis. They moved to Eau Claire in 1947 and in 1965, moved to Chippewa Falls. He had most recently been a resident of the Chippewa Manor and the Rutledge Home, where he made many friends and was well taken care of by their wonderful caregivers.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1940 - 1946, during WWII, where he worked on a submarine, the USS Holland and from 1950 - 1951 serving during the Korean Conflict.
He worked as a barber for 39 years and opened his own barber shop in the 1960s in the Putnam Heights area of Eau Claire, retiring on April 30, 1987. Merrill was a member of the Eau Claire VFW Post #7232, Eau Claire American Legion Post #53; and the Eau Claire ELKS Club. He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed fishing, was a devoted gardener and canned his own vegetables; and loved to duck hunt along the Mississippi with his hunting buddies, Milo Everson, Jack Farber and Kenny Prissel.
Merrill was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Alice of Chippewa Falls; two sisters, Carol Corpany of South Carolina, Eleanor Jarrad of Florida; three brothers, Les Seaberg of Minneapolis, MN, Frank (Linda) Seaberg of Ogilvie, MN, Johnny Seaberg of South Dakota; a very special niece, Dorothy Ann Penate of Minneapolis; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Vivian, Irene and Delores; three brothers, Fred, Allen and Glen; and his hunting dog, Sarge.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 3 at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Rick Hoyme officiating. Military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will take place immediately following the service at the church.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

A memorial service for Merrill O. Seaberg, 89, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 3 at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Rick Hoyme officiated and music was provided by Christine Hitt.
Flag presentation to the family was by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council and Thomas Eder Jr. bugled taps.
