Myrtle L. Larson, 97, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Wissota Health & Regional Vent Center in Chippewa Falls.
She was born September 1, 1915 in Chippewa County, the first child of Mabel (Engebretson) and Theodore Nelson. She attended grade school in Colburn Township and graduated from Stanley High School in 1932. She received her teaching certificate after one more year at Stanley.
Myrtle taught grade school for two years in the town of Delmar near Boyd. Later she taught for two years at Cobban Township near Jim Falls.
Myrtle married Henry Larson on Christmas Day, 1936 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Cornell. They were blessed with two children, K. Duane and Myrna Joy. They operated the bowling alley in Cornell for a number of years before moving to Tacoma, Washington in the 40s, where she taught school for a few years.
They moved back to the town of Goetz in the 50s where they operated a dairy farm for many years. During this time Myrtle went back to school receiving a teaching degree from UW Eau Claire. She then taught school in Stanley and later in Cornell. She then received a degree in special education and taught from many years in Cornell.
Myrtle and Henry retired from farming and moved to Chippewa Falls where they resided for many years. Failing health reasons led them to Comforts of Home in Chippewa Falls. After Henrys death, Myrtle and Myrna lived at the home of Marge Geissler in Chippewa Falls. After Myrna passed away Myrtle moved back to Comforts of Home, later to Wissota Springs and then to Wissota Health & Regional Vent Center.
Survivors include her son, Pastor K. Duane (Mabel) Larson of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Pastor David (Judy) Nelson of Farmington, MN; sister-in-law, Helen Nelson; brother-in-law, Milo Hoiland and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Henry on September 23, 2001; daughter, Myrna Joy; sister, Esther Hoiland; brothers, Kenneth, Theodore and Morris Nelson; sisters-in-law, Arlene Nelson and Verna Nelson .
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 20 at Big Drywood Lutheran Church in the town of Goetz with Rev. Lowell Bolstand and her brother, Rev. David Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
AFTERSERVICE:
A funeral service for Myrtle L. Larson, 97, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 19 at Big Drywood Lutheran Church in Cadott. The Rev. Lowell Bolstad and Myrtles brother, Rev David Nelson officiated. Music was provided by Sue Wagner, Jim and David Nelson, Mark and David Hoiland and personal reflections were shared by several friends.
Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Casket bearers were David, Robert and Patrick Geissler, Michael and Miriam Nelson, Larry Ryan and Don Dukerschein.
