Paul W. Stockinger, 97, of Chippewa Falls passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Chippewa Falls.

He was the son of Jacob and Martha (Eissfeldt) Stockinger, born on November 11, 1916, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Paul served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army as a front-line reconnaissance radio operator. He fought through Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, receiving the Silver Star, among many other medals.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, June (Eaves) Stockinger in 1980, and his 9 brothers and sisters. He was the youngest of ten.

Paul married his sweetheart, June Eaves, in 1938. He supported her dream to own a gift and apparel shop in Wauwatosa, WI in the 1950s. Together, they worked hard to create a life of happy memories for their children.

As a young man, Paul worked at his familys meat market in Wauwatosa. His career spanned years in sales, first as a dry cleaning salesperson before and after the war and then in funeral casket sales, as an insurance agent, a gas station franchise owner in Chicago, and later, for the local school district. He enjoyed a lifelong hobby of photography.

He and June retired to Holiday, Florida in 1977. In 2005 he moved back to Milwaukee and Chippewa Falls to be near his family.

Paul is survived by: his children Paul M. (LindaLou) of Merton, John (Linda) of Chippewa Falls, and Mary (Bert) Budai of Ravenna, Michigan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Andrew and James Stockinger, Michael Budai and Marcia (Budai) Warden and three great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to sincerely thank Doctor Benson, the nurses, and the many caregivers and staff, and St. Josephs Hospice, who provided a compassionate and supportive home for him at the Wisconsin Veterans Home.

In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family asks that donations be made to the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Chippewa Falls and in the memo line, put spotting scope or volunteer services. A spotting scope will be purchased in Pauls memory to observe an eagles nest near the veterans home.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 8th at English Lutheran Church of Bateman, 20588 County Hwy X, Chippewa Falls, with lunch to follow.
