Pearl Martha Jacobson, 99, of Chippewa Falls, formerly of the town of Lafayette, died Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Dove Healthcare-Rutledge Home while under the care of Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 23, 1917 in Moline, Ill., to Edward L. and Mary C. (Sanders) Redman. In 1919 her family moved to Ladysmith, Wis., where she grew up in the town of Grow. She attended Cloverland Grade School and graduated from Ladysmith High School. Following high school she attended and graduated from Rusk County Normal School and taught at Rusk County rural elementary schools until her marriage to Lester J. Jacobson on June 1, 1938.

Pearl and Lester resided in Ladysmith, Prentice, Spooner, New Lisbon, and Union Center until they moved to Chippewa Falls in 1962. She was employed at the Northern Center as an institutional aide until her retirement in1982.

Music was her passion. Pearl loved spending time playing her piano, especially when accompanied by her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, flowers, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Pearl is survived by her son, Thomas W. (Wilma) Jacobson of Eau Claire; daughter, Joan Mary (Timothy) Sommerfeld of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren, Cheryl (Greg) Karr of Stevens Point, Wis., Jayne M. Jacobson of Eau Claire, Deborah Ann FitzGerald of Eau Claire, Laurie (Greg) Keene of St. Cloud, Minn., Betsy Jo LeQuia of Chippewa Falls, Joseph Sommerfeld of New Richmond, Wis., and Jeffrey (Lori) Sommerfeld of Tucson, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Niki Harings of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Mandi Karr of Milwaukee Wis., Andrew Keene of Eau Claire, Isabella Keene of St. Cloud, Minn., Alexis LeQuia of Chippewa Falls, and Adeline Sommerfeld of New Richmond, Wis. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; grandson, Kenneth Jacobson; and sisters, Lilas Burns and Irma DePew.

The family would like to thank all of the people at Dove Healthcare - Rutledge Home and Mayo Clinic Home Healthcare and Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they gave to our Pearl. We are especially appreciative for the piano that they made available to her throughout her stay and that she was able to play until the last few days of her life.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 28 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls with Fr. Justin Kizewski officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Cornell Cemetery, Cornell, Wis.
