Raymond Smith

Raymond Lewis Smith, 96, of Chippewa Falls, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Our House Memory Care in Chippewa Falls while under the care of Interim Hospice.

He was born May 6, 1921 in Chippewa Falls to Elida (Larson) and Mathias "Matt" Smith. Ray grew up in Chippewa Falls and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1939.

Following high school, Ray served honorably in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. during WWII, serving in the Southwest Pacific Area, Australia and New Guinea.

On September 15, 1951, Ray married Doris Culver. They resided in Chippewa Falls and Ray was employed at Uniroyal in Eau Claire for many years. He then worked for the U.S. Post Office in Chippewa Falls as a clerk and also as a carrier for 38 years, retiring in 1984.

Ray was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls; the VFW Post 1038; and the United Christian Travelers of America. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially if he was hunting or fishing.

He is survived by sister-in-law, Maxine Culver of Altoona; brother-in-law, Harold (Nancy) Culver of Iron Mountain, MI; nieces and nephews, Elaine Mavis of Chippewa Falls, Larry (Sandra) Culver of Bloomer, Barb (Tim) Dwyer of Burnsville, MN, Chris (Bob) Thode of Florence, KY, and Tom (Cheryl) Culver of Polaski, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clyde; a sister, Eileen; brothers-in-law, Wayne Culver and Russell (Virginia) Culver; and his wife, Doris on January 21, 2016.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, October 23 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Mark Homp of Christ Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral chapel.
