Richard C. "Dick" Frazier, 91, of Chippewa Falls, resident of the Rutledge Home, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls after a lingering illness.
He was born December 7, 1919 to Eugene and Maybelle (Hoover) Frazier in Seville, Ohio. He attended schools in Seville and graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. Degree in Art. Dick was employed by Ohio Injector Company in Wadsworth, Ohio before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served as a Medical Supply Officer in an Army Field Hospital on Guam and was honorably discharged in 1946.
After service, he graduated from Ohio State University with a Law Degree. He was employed by Ohio Casualty Insurance Company in Hamilton, Ohio. After moving to Chippewa Falls, he was employed by Colbert's Shoe Store and H. J. Loiselle, retiring in 1985.
Dick married Esther Ackley on May 18, 1974 at the First Presbyterian Church in Chippewa Falls.
He was active in many local organizations. He was a 50 year member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity; First Presbyterian Church; Chippewa Falls Masonic Lodge #176 F & AM; Valley of Eau Claire Consistory; Tripoli Shrine; Chippewa Shrine Club; Chippewa Chapter #112 Order of Eastern Star; and American Legion Post #77.
His hobbies included golf and gardening, especially his colorful hibiscus. Dick loved to sing. He directed a Glee Club while in college; sang in the church choir, the Consistory Choir, and the Chippewa Valley Community Chorus. He continued to sing at the Rutledge Home at the sing-a-longs and hymn sings.
Survivors include: his wife of 37 years, Esther; two sons, Eugene R. Frazier of Roswell, New Mexico, Curtis P. (Nancy) Frazier of Henderson, Nevada; a sister, Theodora White of Leesburg, Florida; three grandchildren, Alexander Frazier of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jessica Frazier of Carol Stream, Illinois, Melissa McLeod of San Diego, Calif.; a special cousin, Virginia Martin of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; two nieces and one nephew; and special grandniece and nephews, Taylor, Erik and Jonathan Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Chippewa Falls with Rev. Dr. Barry Boyer officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
Family and friends may call from 4-6 p.m., Friday, September 9 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, with a Masonic Service at 6 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Endowment Trust Fund or to the Masonic Center Building Fund.
