Richard Thomas “Dick” Hartman, 88, of Chippewa Falls, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System- Eau Claire.

He was born February 29, 1936, in Bloomer, to Louis J. and Florence E. (Marek) Hartman. Richard grew up in and around Chippewa Falls, running around with the other “west hill kids”, and graduated from McDonell High School in 1954.

Richard began his undergrad at UW Eau Claire before entering into the US Air Force. He served his country from 1955 to 1958 as an Aircraft Navigation Repairman. Following his military career, Richard returned to Eau Claire. There he met Sally Lea, his future wife of 57 years.

On August 26, 1961, the couple were married at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls. Richard then continued his education at Florida State University, where he earned his Master’s of Social Work.

The family eventually moved back to Wisconsin, where they settled on the shores of Lake Wissota. Richard made his career as a director and administrator for the Northern Center.

Golfing and reading were some of Richard’s passions, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to be out on the lake or at the family cabin, especially when his 3 boys were there with him.

Richard is survived by his sons, Lee (Susan) Hartman, Jeff (Barb) Hartman, and Tom (Adrienne) Hartman; grandchildren, Corey (Jana), Marlee (Matt), Katie (Ryan), Jake, Grace, Logan, and Ben; great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Drew; sisters, Patty (Thomas) Rooney, Karen (Chuck) Larson, and Donna (William) Haley; significant other, Shari Pitsch; and many other loving relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally; great-granddaughter, Everlee Mae Dachel; brother, Gene (Catherine) Hartman; and parents.
