Richard "Dick" Fraser Morris, 67, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at home.
He was born November 30, 1944 in Oakland, Calif. to Francis (Caswell) and William "Bill" Morris. He grew up in Cherokee, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Shortly after his graduation, he married Janis "Jan" Goltry on December 15, 1967. They moved to the Minneapolis area, where he worked for Control Data Corporation as a customer engineer and engineer in charge from 1967-1975. They moved to Chippewa Falls in 1975 where he joined Cray Research as director of field engineering. In 1978, Dick was promoted to chief systems engineer in charge of Cray 1 System Test and in 1980, was further promoted to chief engineer. He became vice president of technical operations in 1984 until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by: his wife, Jan; cherished daughter, Libby and grandchildren, Katie and Jake Niesen all of Eau Claire; sister, Jean (Gale) Whitaker; step-sisters, Marion Taylor, Jane (Dan) Levy; nephews, James Whitaker, Josh (Alysse) Levy and niece, Sara Levy, all of California; his aunt, Betty Caswell French of Iowa; and many cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his father Bill Morris; mother, Frances Caswell Morris Taylor and step-father, M.D. Taylor; a sister, Cathy; step-sisters, Alice Taylor, Patricia Taylor Raymond and an uncle, Larry French.
Dick liked to spend his time working on his collection of America Flyer Model Trains and his hot rods. He kept in close contact with his classmates of the 1963 Cherokee, Iowa graduating class. For the past several years he enjoyed the Monday Night Suduko gathering that he and his wife, Jan hosted.
Dick's family, especially his beloved grandchildren, and circle of friends were the most important things in his life.
A visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., Saturday, April 7 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. Following the visitation, family and friends are invited to a luncheon reception at High Shores Supper Club on Lake Wissota. At Dick's request, a private family service will be held.
Interment will be at a later date.
