Robert D. Williams, 90, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
He was born January 3, 1925 in Gilmanton to Minnie (Dieckman) and Edgar Williams. He grew up in Mondovi, where he also attended school.
Bob served honorably in the US Navy during WWII, and was a "plank owner" aboard the USS Hank.
On August 11, 1950, he married Mildred Frase at St. John's Lutheran in Eau Claire. They resided in Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, and Robert worked as a telephone repair man for AT&T for 35 years until his retirement.
Robert's past times were hunting with his faithful hunting dogs, fishing, fixing things and "putzing." He and Millie enjoyed traveling, which included a trip to Alaska and annual Navy reunions. He took many hunting and fishing trips to Canada and out west. He also loved trips to the cabin with grandkids and going to Lake Superior for fishing with friends.
He was a member of the English Lutheran Church of Bateman, the Cadott VFW, American Legion in Chippewa Falls, and the Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife, Millie; daughter, Barb Williams; son, Gerald Williams, all of Chippewa Falls; a brother, Bill (Carol) Williams of Somerset; brother-in-law, Donald Frase of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Nathan Hanson of Duluth and Joylyn Hanson of Eau Claire; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorraine Williams; brother, Donald Williams; and six Labrador retrievers, Bing, Duke, Murphy Dick, Yellow Pages, Sam, and Chipper.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.,Tuesday, December 22 at the English Lutheran Church of Bateman with Rev. Deborah Nissen officiating. Military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will take place immediately following the service at the church. Interment will be held at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
