Roger H. Meier, 76, of Chippewa Falls, died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

He was born February 22, 1935 in Chippewa Falls to Adeline (Buchli) and Henry Meier. He grew up in Chippewa Falls and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1953.

Following high school, Roger worked at the Chippewa Woolen Mill, then at Knights Transfer, and Consolidated Thermoplastics. He then began working for the city of Chippewa Falls at Irvine Park, becoming Supervisor of Park Operations. He retired in 1998, after 27 years of dedicated service to the community.

He married Marlene Schnoor on September 21, 1974 at Zion United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls. They had resided in Chippewa Falls since that time.

Roger was very active in civic organizations including: the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #246; the Hallie Optimist Club, where he enjoyed their many activities throughout the year. He was a member and past board member of the North Star Chapter of the American Breweriana Association and Brewery Collector's Club of America, being an avid collector of brewery paraphernalia, specializing in his hometown brand, Leinenkugel's. He was also a member of the local Matchbook Club. He belonged to the Chippewa Falls Historical Society and was proud to share historical facts about the area to those who wanted information. He was one of the pioneers for the Christmas Village at Irvine Park. Roger loved to barbeque and liked to entertain family and friends with his accordion playing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Chippewa Falls; six daughters, Sally (David) Kurth of Colorado Springs, CO, Christine (Gordy) Klingbeil of Prior Lake, MN, Susan Michael of Woodbury, MN, Karen McDevitt of Aurora, AZ, Jill (John) Becker of Osseo, Pamela (Harry) Bliss of Sun City, AZ; a brother, David (Arlene) of Chippewa Falls; ten grandchildren, Amanda (Adam) Berger, Andrew (Courtney) Kurth, , Andrea (Ronnie) Bastyr, Jeffrey Klingbeil, Alyssa Michael, Katelyn Michael, Katrina Bradley, Jacob (Shauna) McDevitt, Jed Becker and James Becker; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 3 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Fr. Robert Hoekstra, officiating. Interment will be in Tilden Emmanuel Cemetery, town of Tilden.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, June 2 and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, Roger's family would appreciate memorials to Irvine Park.

A memorial service for Roger H. Meier, 76, of Chippewa Falls was held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 03, 2011 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Fr. Robert Hoekstra officiated. Interment was in Tilden Emmanuel Cemetery, town of Tilden.

Thursday evening, members of the Loyal Order of the Moose conducted a memorial ritual in Roger's honor at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel.
