Private committal services will be held
Roland G. Keyeski, 86, of Chippewa Falls, died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Dove Healthcare-Wissota Health & Regional Vent Center, under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
He was born November 7, 1929 in Chippewa Falls to Francis Gerald and Josephine (Fanetti) Keyeski. Roland attended Notre Dame Grade School and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1947.
After high school he moved to Milwaukee when he enlisted in the Marine Corp. Reserve. When the Korean War broke out in June 1950, he was called into active duty. At that time he was employed by Western Electric. In September 1950, he landed with the 1st Marine Division Infantry at Incheon, South Korea. In late November he was wounded near the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea and hospitalized at the Yokosuka Naval Hospital in Japan. In August he was rotated back to the states and was honorably discharged in March 1952, at Quantico Marine Base in Virginia.
Roland was employed by Soo Line Railroad in August 1952, as a conductor and brakeman. He retired in December 1987.
On December 18, 1954, he married Virginia Gustafson.
Roland was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, American Legion Post 77, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1038, and Disabled American Veterans.
Roland is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Roman (Jean) of Cadott, Roland (Laurie) of Albert Lea, Minn., Joann "Sissy" (Mark) Hanson of Chippewa Falls, Jean (John) Arneson of Cadott, Julie (Tim) Rank of Minneapolis, Minn., and Rodney (Sarah) of Sun Prairie, Wis.; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Wanda (Sam) Nudo and Kathleen "Kitty" Keyeski; and grandson, Grady Rank.
A private committal service with military honors will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, Wissota Health & Regional Vent Center, St. Joseph's Hospice, and especially Dr. Maniquiz for their care.
