Frank Schlick, 46, of Chippewa Falls, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 after a heroic and inspirational battle with cancer.
He was born February 11, 1967 in St. Paul, MN to Kathleen (McLaughlin) and Frank Schlick. He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Thomas Academy in 1985.
Frank continued his education at the University of WI Madison, earning a degree in Engineering. While in college, Frank met the love of his life, Carin Dueholm. On October 12, 1991, they married in Eau Claire.
During their marriage, Frank and Carin lived in Seattle, where Frank was an engineer for the Boeing Company. In 2000, they moved to Chippewa Falls to be closer to their families. Frank enjoyed his career as a writer engineer at Cray, Inc.
Frank demonstrated his faith in God through his dedication to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls, where he also served on many committees over the years.
Frank was very active and enjoyed participating in triathlons, marathons and other competitive events. He was a soccer coach for many years and loved cheering on his children in their sporting activities. He also enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. Even though his diagnosis in August, 2011 slowed him down physically, he continued to be an active participant in life. He cherished time with his wife, children and extended family.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Carin; son, Marshall; daughter, Amelia, all of Chippewa Falls; his parents, Kathleen McLaughlin and Daryl Skobba of Green Valley, Arizona, Frank and Janelle Schlick of St. Paul; sister, Susan (Bill) Westbrook; niece, Emma Friedmann, all of White Bear Lake; sister, Kelly Schlick of St. Paul; brother, Andrew Schlick of Ocala, FL; aunts, Sally Colbert, Betty Andrews, Judith Pryor; in-laws, Bonnie Emberson of Eau Claire, William and Sis Dueholm of The Villages, FL; sister-in-law, Kim (Cecil) Reiter and their children, Sammi and Cole, all of Eau Claire; and many close friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 25 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Paul Oppedahl officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m., Sunday, February 24 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Frank's honor are appreciated and may be designated to the Frank Schlick Endowment Memorial Fund, c/o the Community Foundation of Chippewa County, PO Box 153, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729, www.yourlegacyforever.org or to a fund of the donor's choice.
Frank's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and Dr. Basu of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center in Eau Claire for their dedication and excellent care, and also a special thank you to Sara Wiseman and the staff of St. Joseph's Hospice for their compassion and support shown to Frank and his family during his journey; and to thank Pastor Paul Oppedahl at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church for the guidance and support.
AFTERSERVICE:
A funeral service for Frank Schlick, 46, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 25 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Paul Oppedahl officiated, music was provided by organist Barbara Sandford and vocalist Maddy Parker. Readings were given by Sandra Herbenson and personal reflections were shared by David Dueholm, Susan Westbrook and Bill Westbrook.
Casket bearers were Gary Goulet, Scott Olson, Terry McCanna, Reggie Holliday, Paul Schaus and Rick Rineck, honorary casket bearer was Brent Bandholz. Interment will be at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
