4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia Street, Chippewa Falls.

SERVICE:

11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 21, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Scott D. "Skeeter" Layman, 64, of Chippewa Falls, died at his home on Thursday, October 13, 2016.

Scott was born on June 30, 1952. He and his aunt, Colleen were raised together by his mother, Donna Van Slate and his grandmother, Kay Madenwaldt in Merrill WI.

On September 11, 1982, Scott was united in marriage to Brenda Vanderhyden at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thorp, WI. Scott graduated from Merrill High School, received his bachelor's degree at St. Norbert's College in Green Bay, WI and went on to obtain his Masters degree at UW-Oshkosh. His career was spent in the insurance industry until his retirement in 2014.

Scott loved being able to live on the water his entire life. He also enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and was an avid reader. One of his favorite places to be was at his log cabin which he built with some of his closest friends. Scott truly valued the friendships he acquired throughout his life and he was his children's biggest fan.

He was loved by many and his legacy will be carried on through the memories he has made.

Scott is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brenda; his daughter, Gretta M. Layman of Rhinelander, WI; his son, Cory S. Layman of Chippewa Falls; mother, Donna Van Slate of Merrill, WI; and three half-sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Layman; his aunt, Colleen Renkens; and a half-brother.

A visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia Street, Chippewa Falls. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 21, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Father Justin Kizewski will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Bernard/St. Hedwig Cemetery, Thorp, WI.
