Theresa Gazda, 87, of Chippewa Falls died Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Dove Healthcare-Rutledge Home, under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
She was born August 3, 1929 in Thorp, Wis. to Peter and Vera Konwinski. She grew up in Thorp and later moved to Chicago, Ill. for work. While living in Chicago she married Joseph Rybka. They later divorced.
Theresa married Charles Gazda in Chicago, where they lived for many years. After his death, Theresa moved to Chippewa Falls with her sons. She worked various part time jobs in the Chippewa Falls area until her health prevented her from continuing to work.
She was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church. At Christmastime she was well known for her homemade popcorn balls and fudge, as this was her favorite holiday. Theresa enjoyed baking for and spending time with her family and was an avid All Star Wrestling fan.
Theresa is survived by her sons, Robert (Janice) Rybka of Eau Claire, and John (Jennifer) Gazda of Cadott; grandchildren, Jennifer Parenteau, Cindy (Chris) Degner, Trista (Jeff) Kenealy, and Michael and Matthew Gazda; great-grandchildren, Alexi and Arik Parenteau, Connor Degner, and Delton and Timothy Kenealy; brothers, Eddie (Audrey) and Chester Konwinski; sister, Rosie Koepl; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; brothers, Raymond and Virgil Konwinski; sisters, Irene Derks and Tillie Holeiwski; and great-grandson, Sammy Degner.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, August 22 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Mark Pierce of Notre Dame Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls, officiating.
Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
