Thomas J. Elbert, 79, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, went to be home with the Lord on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire after a courageous battle with cancer and COPD.

He was born January 2, 1934 to Helen (Young) and Andrew Elbert. Tom married Roberta "Bobbi" Maxwell on February 26, 1955 in Eau Claire.

Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. After the war, he was employed at the Northern Wisconsin Center in Chippewa Falls as a Recreational Therapist Assistant until his retirement.

He and his wife, Bobbi, enjoyed many years of retirement camping in Gordon, WI, where they caught many fish and entertained children and grandchildren alike. He was an avid gardener and loved to read. He was a member of Cadott United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheri (Brad) Bourget of Cadott; two sons, David (Marian) Elbert of Cadott, Steve (Lynn) Elbert of Chippewa Falls; three sisters, Ruth (Jim) Goetz of Naples, FL, Sally (Thomas) Hedin of Minneapolis, MN, Diane (Steve) Lingren of Loganville, GA; ten grandchildren, Phil (Melissa) Kesling of San Jose, CA, Scott (Amy) Kesling of Madison, Josh (Sarah) Bourget of Jim Falls, Whitney (Nate) Haney, Andrew (Katie) Elbert, Jake Elbert, all of Chippewa Falls, Chayne (Emily) Bourget of Eau Claire, Zach (Claire) Elbert of Hawaii, Thomas (Becca) Elbert of Eau Claire, Ben Elbert of Cadott. He was also the proud grandparent of four great-grandchildren, all who affectionately called him "Bumpy".

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Bobbi on September 18, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11 at Cadott United Methodist Church with Rev. George Olinske officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Bateman Cemetery, town of Lafayette.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

AFTERSERVICE:

A memorial service for Thomas J. Elbert, 79, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, was held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 11 at Cadott United Methodist Church in Cadott. The Rev. George Olinske officiated, music was provided by organist, Dorothy Peters, bagpiper, Alex Wier and vocalists, Deb and Beth Dresel and Sarah Bourget. Personal reflections were shared by grandson, Josh, Bourget. Military honors were conducted by the Cadott American Legion & VFW.

Honorary casket bearers were grandchildren, Phil Kesling, Scott Kesling, Josh Bourget, Whitney Haeny, Andrew Elbert, Jacob Elbert, Chayne Bourget, Zachary Elbert, Tom Elbert and Ben Elbert. Spring interment will be in Bateman Cemetery, town of Lafayette.
