Thomas A. Nelson

Thomas A. "Tom" Nelson, 88, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 with his wife by his side. He was born in Chippewa Falls, WI to Arthur E. and Ruth Manila (Busch) Nelson, April 10, 1936. 

Tom grew up in Chippewa Falls, attending Southside grade school and Junior high. He graduated with the class of 1954 from Chippewa Falls high school. He never missed a class reunion in the years that followed.

From an early age he showed mechanical abilities and enjoyed fixing and tinkering with most anything. He was the only kid in town that had a coaster wagon with working headlights.

Cars especially interested him, starting with a 36 Chevrolet; his first car, which cost him $17.50. Over the years he bought and fixed up many vehicles to make a few dollars.

In August of 1957 he married Evelyn (Cripe) Nelson. Together they raised their two children, Sally and Randy.

Tom was a longtime member of Chippewa Valley Bible Church and served in many capacities over the years. He belonged to the Chippewa Valley A's Car club, he and Ev enjoyed going on old car-related tours and activities. 

Over the years Tom was employed at the Chippewa Herald, Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, and Amoco Foam Products/Pactiv.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Sally (William) Chinn; daughter-in-law, Audrey Nelson; sister-in-law, Doni Cripe; five granddaughters, and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Randy; brother-in-law, Richard Cripe and his two sisters along with their husbands, Myrna and Roger Mattison, Jean and Don Dalrymple.

The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their loving care of Tom over the past several months. 

A Funeral Service for Tom will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Chippewa Valley Bible Church. Viewing at 10:00am, Funeral service will begin at 11:00am with Pastor Troy Solava officiating. Tom will be laid to rest at Prairie View Cemetery immediately following.
