Verna W. Quicker, 81, of Altoona, entered into the Presence of Jesus on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Oakwood Villa, while under the care of Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice.

She was born March 29, 1935 in Marshfield, Wis. to Hugo and Elsie (Lutz) Welk. She grew up and lived in the Marshfield area for over 30 years.

Verna worked as a secretary at Marshfield City Hall, then at Roddis Veneer and Lumber Co. She worked her way up to being the top boss's secretary, which continued when Roddis was purchased by the Weyerhaeuser Company. Verna also played in the Marshfield City Band.

In 1966 she married Hubert "Snick" Quicker. Over the years they moved around, including out East and La Crosse, Wis., until settling in Altoona, Wis. in 1972. While living in Altoona, Verna worked various part time jobs, spending much of her time doing volunteer work and caring for her family. She also enjoyed reading, bird watching, sewing, listening to music and working many types of puzzles.

Verna is survived by her loving son, David Quicker of Chippewa Falls; many nieces and nephews including her loving, good friend Carol Meighen; her former husband and now good friends, Snick and Christine Quicker, and his brothers and their families. Further survived by many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, June (Nick) Schnoebelen.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Jacob's Well, 3211 N. 50th Ave., Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Paul Berthiaume officiating.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at Jacob's Well.
