Vernice F. "Vern" Karker, 90, of the village of Lake Hallie, Chippewa Falls died Saturday April 29, 2017, at his home.
Vern was born August 20, 1926, in Chippewa County to Fred and Mary (Ritter) Karker. He attended Gilman High School.
On July 3, 1948, he married Janet Lange in Fall Creek, Wis. Vern enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, taking family trips every year, and spending time with his family and friends at Sand Lake.
Vern worked at the paper mill in Eau Claire for over 30 years, retiring in August, 1988.
Vern is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet; daughter, Debra Karker (special friend, Mike Geram) of Chippewa Falls; son, James (Mary) Karker of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Paul Karker, Rachel (Derek) Petersen and Bethany Karker; great-grandson, Marshall Petersen; sister-in-law, Bonnie Klukas; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Peterson and Elayne (Ben) Hartmann; and brother, Eugene Karker.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 3 at Central Lutheran Church, 28 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls with Rev. Aaron Sturgis officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Central Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
