Walter, J. Gerber, 87, or Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls.

He was born May 30, 1925 in the town of Arthur to Anna Mary (Klonhammer) and Julius Gerber. He was raised in the town of Arthur where he attended Mattot School and then attended Chippewa Falls High School.

He entered the U.S. Army, serving from January 1949 - February 1950 and then from September 1950-October 1951. He was stationed in Kentucky, Fort Rucker, AL and then in Japan. He started working at the Falls Dairy in 1948 and returned there after being honorably discharged from the Army. He was employed at the Falls Dairy for 42 years retiring in 1990.

Walter married Elizabeth "Betty" Hunt on May 20, 1950 at Jim Falls United Methodist Church. They resided in Jim Falls until moving to Chippewa Falls in 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Mary Jane (Ron) Wheeler of Lakota, Iowa, Barbara Jean (John) Hodges of Colorado Springs, CO; two sons, John E. (Sandy) Gerber, Robert M. (Jennifer) Gerber, all of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Rose Balts of Chippewa Falls; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Gerber and Mildred Hunt, both of Chippewa Falls; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Martha Roder and Olga Olson; three brothers, Christian, Alfred and Emil Gerber; and one grandson, Charles M. Hodges.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 7 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Pastor Ron Wheeler officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Village of Lake Hallie.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.

AFTERSERVICE:

A funeral service for Walter, J. Gerber, 87, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, was held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 7 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. Walter's son-in-law, Pastor Ron Wheeler officiated. Music was provided by Kathi Dressel, Olga Holte and Bill Sykora and personal reflections were shared by Scott Windelstecht and Jason Pense.

Interment was in Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie with military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council and Thomas Eder Jr.bugled "Taps." Casket bearers were Michel Gerber, Nathan and Jonathan Wheeler, Dale Schick, Al Balsiger and Jim Hager
