Walter F. "Wally" Wohlbier Jr., 82, of Chippewa Falls, town of Tilden, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire.

He was born October 16, 1929 in Chippewa Falls to Thora (Thompson) and Walter Wohlbier Sr. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School, class of 1948. He entered the U.S. Army in 1949 and was stationed in Austria during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952. He continued his service to his country and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve, 397th Engineer Battalion.

Wally married Eleanor "Ellie" Roshell on May 12, 1956 at Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. The couple resided in Chippewa Falls, where he worked at Johnson Mfg. and learned his trade as a machinist; then worked for Darley Pump; and retired from Uniroyal as a machinist in the late 1980's.

Because of his military background and his respect for his country, he was proud to be involved in the Chippewa Falls VFW Post 1038; TREA (The Retired Enlisted Assoc.); AMVETS; and the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council. He also served as the VFW VAVS Deputy Associate State Representative for many years. He made and donated hundreds of bent nail brain teasers to the patients of the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, which they greatly appreciated.

Wally was also very civic minded and belonged to several organizations which supported his community. He was a member of the Chippewa Falls Order of the Moose Lodge #246; the Tripoli Shrine; Chippewa Falls Masonic Lodge #176 F & AM; Sons of Norway; Chippewa Rod and Gun Club; and the West Wisconsin Wood Carver's Group.

Wally was also a devoted member of Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls.

Wally enjoyed talking to people and making them smile. He also enjoyed time with his wonderful family. He loved to relax by wood carving, sitting outdoors, listening to and watching nature.

Survivors include: his wife, Ellie of Chippewa Falls; three daughters, Karen (Mark) Robinson of Corvallis, Oregon, Sarah Schindler of Colfax, Linda (John) Paquette of Andover, Minnesota; a sister, Doris Campeau of Chippewa Falls; a brother, Carl (Kay) Wohlbier of Stevens Point; eight grandchildren, Shannon and Dylan Robinson of Corvallis, Cody (Angel) Robinson of Fort Louis, Washington, Robert III, Graham and Duron Schindler, Roberta (Jon) Tuschl, all of Colfax; and Nolan Paquette of Andover; four great-grandchildren, Mason, Corbin and Shelby Tuschl and Kolbe Robinson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two sons, Jon Herman Wohlbier in infancy; Walter F. Wohlbier III in 1994; two sisters, Charlotte Severson and Ethel Clark; and a brother, Richard Wohlbier.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 22 at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Rick Hoyme officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Friday, October 21 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. During the visitation Friday evening, there will be a Masonic Service at 6 p.m. followed by a military walk through. The Loyal Order of the Moose will also be having a ceremonial ritual that evening at 7 p.m.

A funeral service for Walter F. "Wally" Wohlbier Jr., 82, of Chippewa Falls, town of Tilden was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 22 at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. Rick Hoyme officiated the service and music was provided by Christine Hitt. Burial with military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Fall and Cassie Webber bugled taps. Casket bearers were grandchildren, Shannon, Dylan and Cody Robinson, Graham, Duron and Robert Schindler III, Roberta Tuschl and Nolan Paquette.

During the visitation Friday evening at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, there was a Masonic Service by the Chippewa Falls Masonic Lodge #176 F & AM; a military walk through by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council; and The Loyal Order of the Moose had a ceremonial ritual.
