VISITATION
11 a.m., Thursday, May 7 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel
Wanda Y. Amundson-Kohls, 75, of Chippewa Falls, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire surrounded by her loving family.
Wanda Yvonne Amundson was born April 7, 1940 in Barron to Bill and Laura (Larson) Amundson. She grew up in the Dallas area and attended schools there. After graduating from Barron High School in 1958, she attended Barron County Teachers College in Rice Lake and UW Superior. She taught schools in the Chetek and Bloomer areas for three years.
In 1964 she married Marvin Kohls. From this union four children were born, Edward, Bruce, Laurie and Jennifer Kohls.
In 1980 Wanda and her children moved to Chippewa Falls, where she worked in several different capacities, sales, secretary, bookkeeper, tax preparer, home care provider and writer. She was somewhat of an entrepreneur, setting up her own tax preparation and bookkeeping business. She also operated her own small printing company, Dee-Lite Printing for a number of years. In this business she edited and printed several books and other items for others, as well as self-publishing her own three books of original poetry," From Within the Depths of Me, Minds' Reflections and Leaves of Time". She wrote special poems for many people and wrote a Christmas story-poem every year for many years to share with family and friends as a Christmas card. She also researched and printed four editions of a Dallas, Wisconsin History Calendar and one for Boyceville, Wisconsin which were widely accepted. She also had several newspaper articles published under her byline in local papers and had two articles about her published in local papers.
Her hobbies and work, other than being a mother and writing, included collecting autographs of many country music stars and others, making unique craft items from things that normally would be discarded, tracking family genealogy and keeping scrapbooks of articles and clippings from newspapers and magazines. This last hobby led to another accomplishment. After selling some certain clippings and other memorabilia on E-Bay to a writer, she was surprised and happy to find that he had used these articles and pictures in a book he had written, "When You Read This, They Will Have Killed Me: the Caryl Chessman Story," by internationally known writer, Alan Bisbort.
Wanda lived a quiet but interesting life. She loved God, her family, her country, rooting for the Chicago Cubs and working at her computer. She was always there if someone had a problem and wanted to talk.
Wanda is survived by her children, Edward of Fall Creek, Bruce of Eau Claire, Laurie of Chippewa Falls, Jennifer (Vance) Powers of Dallas, Wisconsin; two grandsons, Cody Kohls and Marshall Powers; a step-granddaughter, Maddy Powers; a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Kohls; a sister-in-law, Kathy Amundson, special friends, relatives and acquaintances.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Laura Amundson; her brother, Robert Amundson and her ex-husband, Marvin Kohls.
Wanda will be remembered for her caring ways, her poetry and the pots of coffee that were always ready when anyone stopped in.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 7 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Ralph Marquardt of Nathaniel Lutheran Church in Bruce officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Wanda's memory would be appreciated.
Wanda's family would like to send a special thank you to the caring staff of the Neuroscience Wing of the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
