Warren L. Nelson, 89, formerly of Eau Claire, died peacefully Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Villa Marina Health & Rehabilitation Center in Superior.
Warren was the son of John W. and Sophie (Larson) Nelson and was raised in Superior. He graduated from Central High School, attended UWS and Yale University.
Warren served in the European front as a staff sergeant in the United States Army Signal Corps.
While residing in Eau Claire he was employed for 45 years with Wisconsin Bell/AT&T as an engineer.
With his father, John and brother, Jim, their shared hunting and fishing trips were unforgettable. He was always "up front to help" by sharing his many skills with others.
He was predeceased by his son, Mark L. Nelson; sisters, Betty and Joyce; and brother, James.
Warren is survived by his wife, Arlene (Holter) Nelson; daughter Jill (Nelson) Bender and husband David; son Larry Nelson and wife Pat; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Gloria of Menomonee Falls, Wis., and Jane of Denver, Colo.; brother-in-law, Roderic Campbell of Superior; and other numerous relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at Prairie View Cemetery, Village of Lake Hallie. Rev. Carlton Kangas of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Eau Claire will officiate and military honors will be provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
If desired, memorials in Warren's name may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, Superior or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Eau Claire.
