Weldon Peterson

Weldon A. Peterson, 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Chippewa Falls, WI on October 12, 1925, a son of Alvin and Ruth (Modine) Peterson. In 1946, he graduated from the UW Short Course in Madison, WI.Weldon married Margaret Rather at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Malone, WI on August 16, 1947.

Weldon was a life-long dairy farmer. He was a founding member and first president of the Calumet Fire Department, a board member and past president of the WI Guernsey Breeder's Association, and recipient of the association's Pioneer Breeder Award. He was a former director and lifetime member of the American Guernsey Breeder's Association and a general leader of the Calumet 4-H Club.

Weldon was also a member of the Farm Bureau, the National Dairy Shrine, served on the FmHA County Committee, was a State and District Vice President of the FFA, a delegate of the Lake to Lake Dairy Coop and an original member of the Fond du Lac Senior Center's ROMEO group.

Weldon was instrumental in getting Calumet consolidated school merged with the New Holstein School District. He served on the building committee for the New Holstein High School.

Weldon was a member and past council president of St. Paul's UCC. Weldon's joys in life were farming and his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Weldon is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret; four children Weldon (Susan) Peterson Jr. of Malone, Gordon (Denise) Peterson of San Angelo, TX, Bruce Peterson of Malone and Nancy (Jeff) Riedeman of Rosendale; eight grandchildren Angela Peterson, Jessica (Mike) Rinderknecht, Emily (Karl) Hauschild, Kyle (Marla) Peterson, Mallory and Kristian Peterson, David and Sarah Riedeman; great grandchildren Matthew and Ava Rinderknecht, Evelyn Hauschild, and Luke and Samuel Peterson. Weldon is further survived by one brother, Dale (Dona) Peterson, two sisters-in-law, Sadie Peterson and Marjorie Rather, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Ruth Peterson, parents-in-law, Armand and Cora Rather, four brothers, Robert (Beverly) Peterson, David (Jacqueline) Peterson, Richard Peterson and Donald Peterson, one sister, Lois Peterson, a brother-in-law, Norval Rather and a sister-in-law, Eileen (Kenneth) Peth.

Services: The family will welcome relatives and friends on Saturday, November 7th at St. Paul's UCC, N10362 St. Paul's Rd, Malone, from Noon to 1:45 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow visitation at the church on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
