William Flaten

He was born December 19, 1969 in San Francisco, California to Elke M. (Schiman) and Harold F. Flaten. He graduated from Arch Bishop Riordan High School in 1988.

Bill graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College in 1990, and later went to work for River States Truck and Trailer as a Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technician.

Bill married Brenda Justus on September 17, 1994 at Nathaniel Lutheran Church in Bruce, Wisconsin.

Following his diagnosis in 2003, Bill went back to school and earned his CNA certification. He worked as a nursing assistant at Oak Garden Assisted Living, the Chippewa Manor and finally in home healthcare until he was no longer able.

He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls; the Southview Elementary PTO; and the Chippewa Falls Optimist Club. He was a volunteer for St. Joseph's Hospice; Special Kids Day; and the Explorers Mentor Program.

Along with his many civic organizations, Bill also enjoyed spending time outdoors; fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. He also had a love for classic cars.

Survivors include his wife Brenda; two daughters, Alyssa Lynn and Emily Helene, all of Chippewa Falls; his mother, Elke Flaten of San Francisco; mother and father-in-law, Darlene and Kenneth of Bruce; and sister-in-law, Michele Justus.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Flaten; maternal grandmother, Helene Schiman; and paternal grandparents, Horace and Elaine Flaten.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 14 at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Rick Hoyme officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Gardens, town of Washington, Eau Claire County.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Monday, June 13 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Afterservice

A funeral service for William F. "Bill" Flaten was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Central Luthern Church in Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Rick Hoyme officiated, music was provided by Christine Hitt and Neal Westphal shared personal reflections.

Interment was in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, town of Washington, Eau Claire. Casket bearers were: Robert, Steven and Lauren Flaten, Holden Olson, Robert Tyman and Neal Westphal.
