Winifred L. "Winnie" Zech, 81, of Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

She was born January 5, 1931 in Chippewa County to Mabel (Blank) and Frederick Zech. Winnie graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1949.

Following high school, Winnie worked as a secretary for the Chippewa County District Attorney. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Chieftan Oil until her retirement in 1992.

Shortly after retirement, she was awarded American Business Women's Association Woman of the Year. In her retirement, Winnie became a foster grandmother to many children in the area. She was an active member of the Chippewa Falls Senior Center and was well known for making monkeys out of red-heeled socks and enjoyed doing so. Whether it was berry picking or fishing, Winnie enjoyed spending time outdoors. Her favorite pastime was playing cards with friends and family.

Devoted in her faith, she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.

Survivors include four sisters, Betty Anderson of Chippewa Falls, Carol (Jerry) Blodgett of Elk Mound, Barbara Hunt of Chippewa Falls, Alma (Dick) Gunn of LaCrosse; a brother, Donald Zech of W. Palm Beach, FL; special caregiver and great-niece, Pamela Chance; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Zech; and four brothers, Carl, Robert, Henry and Clifford Zech.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 16 at Christ Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Mark Homp officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m., Thursday, November 15 and one hour prior to the service Friday, all at the church.

Memorials in Winnie's honor may be designated to the charity of your choice.

AFTERSERVICE:

A funeral service for Winifred L. "Winnie" Zech, 81, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Mark Homp officiated and music was provided by Linda Downey and Kayla Bodine.

Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Casket bearers were Eugene Anderson, Dick Gunn, Bill Huber, Brian, Scott and Jim Chance.
